In the gui-you year, the twenty-sixth year of the Hongwu era [1393 CE], Yan Zhenzhi reported on the two families of Zheng Ji and Wang Xun in Pujiang of the same village, who had lived together for generations, their families being filial and fraternal for generations. The Emperor issued a special imperial edict praising them as exceptional, appointing the two men as Left and Right Assistants of the Spring Supervisorate. On the third day of the first month, the abbot monk Zujun and others of the Dalongxing Monastery went to the capital to offer New Year congratulations and take their leave to return. The Directorate of Ceremonial official Lu Ti conveyed an imperial decree: "Reward the abbot monk with five ingots, and ordinary monks with two ingots each. Let the Ministry of Rites submit a supplementary memorial. Respect this." An edict bestowed upon the National Preceptor of the Western Regions stated: "Buddhism flourished in the western land, and good causes have broadly covered both Chinese and foreigners. Although there are no penal laws to discipline the recalcitrant, benevolent intent alone serves as the standard. How great! Marvellous awakening is difficult to fathom. In the past, those who followed this path had an instantaneous awakening to the three kinds of emptiness, cast off worldly transmigration, emerged from the miserable destinies, and forever departed from the dark realms, causing the living to cherish them and the dead to revere them. Are they not sages? Recently, when the Western Regions came to offer tribute, there was a monk named Gungya-gyantsan-isizanbu, who is said to be a descendant of the Imperial Preceptor Phags-pa of the former Yuan. He continues his master's path, profoundly comprehending the profound scriptures, and his single-minded resolve is exceptionally steadfast, converting the foolish and recalcitrant to follow goodness, and arousing a benevolent mind to cleanse their transgressions. Although this has only reached Our ears from afar, We specially confer upon you the title of Great National Preceptor of Perfect Wisdom, Marvellous Awakening, and Great Propagation of the Teaching, to govern both monks and laypeople, to be renowned as a good man of the present age, and to serve forever as the chief exemplar within the teaching. Ah! In a lonely mountain room, with the companion of a blue lamp you read and recite; viewing the bright moon, you chant in the breeze. Crossing your legs upon a flat boulder, clad in grass and eating from trees, only then do you correspond to the talisman of goodness."
