2.74

四月命造皇堂於陵所。親製皇陵碑記以示後世。上微時同里劉繼祖。助善地以葬皇考妣。即皇陵追封義惠侯。親撰誥文遣官以祭之　五月二十四日勅授玘太樸左講經。御製誥文諭曰。經中知人我之相。教外忘大小之乘。非古剎之沙門實東林之德士。學高諸侶。名動一時。爾玘大樸養性得。宜講經不倦。持身謹戒。臨事慎為。是用職爾僧官。以副朝典。往化釋子無怠講經。尚宜以佛之覺覺人。以師之業業已。俾釋子有達憲章。庶不負朕設官之初意也。今特授爾僧錄司左講經。汝其勉之。

In the fourth month, an imperial tomb chamber was ordered to be built at the mausoleum site, and the Emperor personally composed the 'Epitaph of the Imperial Mausoleum' to show to future generations. In the days of the Emperor's obscurity, Liu Jizu from the same village had assisted with auspicious ground to bury the Emperor's deceased father and mother; at the Imperial Mausoleum he was posthumously enfeoffed as Marquis of Yihui, and the Emperor personally drafted an imperial patent and dispatched officials to offer sacrifice to him.
On the twenty-fourth day of the fifth month, an imperial edict appointed Ruji Taipu as Left Expositor of the Sūtras. The imperial patent of instruction stated:
'In the scriptures, one recognizes the marks of self and others; outside the teaching, one forgets the Great and Small Vehicles. Not merely a śramaṇa of an ancient monastery, you are truly a virtuous gentleman of the Eastern Forest. Your learning surpasses your peers; your renown stirs the times. You, Ji Dapu, nourish your nature fittingly, expound the sūtras untiringly, maintain your conduct with strict discipline, and act with prudence when facing affairs. For this reason, you are appointed to monastic office to conform with the court statutes. Go forth to transform the sons of Śākya and expound the sūtras without indolence! Furthermore, you should awaken others with the awakening of the Buddha, and conduct yourself through the vocation of a master, so that the sons of Śākya may comprehend the institutional regulations, lest you fail my initial intention in establishing these offices. Now, I specially confer upon you the post of Left Expositor of the Sūtras in the Central Buddhist Registry. Strive diligently therein!'
