2.78

御製授清濬左覺義誥文諭曰。夫僧者。立身於物表以化人。初不可煩以官守也。然而聚廬以居合眾而食。錢穀有出納。簿籍有勾稽。不有所司。何以能治。故僧官之設歷代不廢。今命爾僧清濬。為僧錄司左覺義。爾其往慎乃職勿怠以私。使彼學道之從。安居飽食而不懈於進修。以稱朕興隆爾教之意。欽哉。

The Imperial Patent Appointing Qingjun as Left Awakener of Righteousness stated:
'Now, monks establish themselves beyond mundane things in order to transform people; originally, they should not be troubled with official duties. Yet they dwell together in communities and dine in assemblies; money and grain have outlays and receipts, and registers and accounts require auditing. Without designated officials, how could they be governed? Therefore, the establishment of monastic officials has not been abolished through successive dynasties. Now I appoint you, the monk Qingjun, as Left Awakener of Righteousness in the Central Buddhist Registry. Go forth, be prudent in your office, and do not be negligent through selfishness. Enable those followers studying the Way to reside in peace, eat their fill, and not slacken in their cultivation and progress, so as to match my intention of promoting and prospering your teaching. Respect this.'
