2.77

御製授仲羲闡教誥文諭曰。入定於大千界內。談經於不二門中。解脫為空清虛成性。久留心於佛教。獨潛於禪林。去就一之。是非不染爾仲羲居山禪伯對月詩宗抱不墮之慈悲。樂無窮之清淨。乃命闡教之職。用副僧錄之司。尚宜深究佛書詳窮禪教。條分本末縷析始終。俾諸僧皆悟靜中之禪。而無教外之失。今特授爾僧錄司右闡教。往欽於訓。宜懋爾功。

The Imperial Patent Appointing Zhongxi as Clarifier of the Teaching stated:
'Entering samādhi within the trichiliocosm, discoursing on scriptures within the non-dual gate; liberation becomes emptiness, and purity and tranquility form the nature. Long turning your mind to the Buddhist teaching, you uniquely immersed yourself in the Chan forest. Going or staying, you treated them as one; untouched by right and wrong. You, Zhongxi, are a Chan elder residing in the mountains, a poetic master facing the moon, embracing unflagging compassion and delighting in inexhaustible purity. Thus, I appoint you to the post of Clarifier of the Teaching to assist the office of the Buddhist Registry. You should further delve deeply into Buddhist scriptures, thoroughly probe Chan and the teachings, distinguish the root and branches, and analyze the beginning and end, so that all monks may awaken to the Chan of stillness without falling into errors outside the teaching. Now, I specially confer upon you the post of Right Clarifier of the Teaching in the Central Buddhist Registry. Go forth and revere these instructions; exert yourself in your duties.'
