Chan Master Guding, taboo name Ming, was a fifteenth-generation descendant of Linji. Having four times occupied the seat of enlightenment, when about to show extinction, he said to his disciples, "Avalokiteśvara holding a lotus flower has arrived!" He sat peacefully and passed away. Upon cremation, his tongue, teeth, and prayer beads were undamaged, and there were countless five-colored relics. The national historian Mr. Wei composed a stele for him. Recorded Sayings in Four Assemblies circulates in the world.
