The sixth year, renwu. The seventh year, guiwei, second month: The metropolitan examination hall caught fire, and dozens of examinees were burned to death. On the last night of this month, there was a sound in the empty sky. Li Xian submitted a memorial saying that what has no form yet makes sound is called the "monster drum." Hu Ying was incorruptible, tranquil, and of few desires, respectful and cautious in office. He stood at court for nearly sixty years and died at the age of eighty-nine. He was posthumously granted the title of Grand Guardian and given the posthumous name Zhong'an.
