壬寅十八年。陳獻章。字公甫。廣東人。築一室名陽春。日杜門端默其中。以明心為務。曰舍彼之繁。求我之約。又曰。為學須靜坐。養出端倪。方有商量處。

The eighteenth year, renyin: Chen Xianzhang, styled Gongfu, was a native of Guangdong. He built a room named Yangchun, where he closed his doors daily and sat silently upright within, taking the illumination of the mind as his endeavor. He said: "Cast aside their complexity and seek my simplicity." He also said: "To engage in learning, one must sit quietly; only when one nurtures the initial sprout will there be room for discussion."
