Chan Master Guyin, taboo name Faqin, gave himself the title Old Man of Yuquan. He was from Xingxian, surnamed Cai, and his mother was Lady Huang. At twenty-five, he paid homage to Master Chishi to leave household life. Seeking the Dharma, he questioned Master Dachan, and studied with such great beings as Xingkong, Jinghuang, and Yinzong, deliberating and discerning with them. He also met Baoming Shoutang, who gave him certification. Responding to the invitation of Ruiyan, he expounded the Dharma and gave extensive instructions to the assembly. Later, he founded a great monastery at Doufeng, broadly transforming the local region. On the day he entered quiescence, flocks of birds cried mournfully, and fish in the pond leaped up. He had the *Tihu ji* in three fascicles, which circulates in the world.
