興獻王長子。憲宗之孫也。興獻封于湖廣之安陸。正德丁卯八月十五日。上生于與邸。王薨。上嗣理國事。至是年十五矣。武宗無子。臨崩奉詔迎立。在位四十五年。壽六十。上徽號曰。欽天履道英毅聖神宣文廣武洪仁大孝肅皇帝。廟號世宗。葬永陵。

He was the eldest son of Prince Xingxian, and a grandson of Emperor Xianzong. Prince Xingxian was enfiefed in Anlu of Huguang. On the fifteenth day of the eighth month in the dingmao year of Zhengde [1507], His Majesty was born in the prince's princely residence. When the Prince passed away, His Majesty succeeded to govern the affairs of the princely domain; by this time he was fifteen years old. Emperor Wuzong had no sons; upon his death, an edict was obeyed to welcome and establish him. He reigned for forty-five years and lived to the age of sixty. He was posthumously honored as Emperor Qintian lüdao yingyi shengshen xuanwen guangwu hongren daxiao su (Emperor Shizong the Reverent). His temple name was Shizong, and he was buried in the Yongling Mausoleum.
