Chan Master Yuchuan: taboo name Zhenhui, art name Yuchuan, surnamed Fu, a native of Zhicheng. He attended Jingkong at Lushan Monastery and hand-copied twelve sets of the Lotus Sūtra to distribute as offerings to various monasteries. He paid homage to purify the three karmas, and after a long time, resonance occurred and his wisdom became transcendent. He went to Tianchi to study under Yuzhi, who gave him the gongan of the "Ten Thousand Dharmas"; he investigated it with one mind. He wrote the two characters "impermanence" upon his table, and held a disciplinary clapper in his hand to ward off torpor and distraction. After a long time, he was awakened, and Zhi gave him his confirmation. Later, he served as the head monk in the Dharma assemblies of Feiying and Jingshan. Beset by the harassment of the county magistrate, he maintained the precepts until his death. His verse said: / "When were the sufferings of ignorance sown, / Gathering now to bring such torment? / In pain, I have not yet emptied the aggregate of form; / In leisure, I still feel peaceful and harmonious. / Heavenly flowers are not scattered into the void; / Night watch drums beat especially within the moon. / Who can escape allotted fixed karma? / As for life and death, let this body take its course." / He was forty-six years old. There is the Yuchuan Draft.
