Chan Master Yungu: taboo name Fahui, a son of the Huai family of Jiashan. He first studied the Yoga teachings at Dayun Monastery in Jiahe. Later he called upon Master Fazhou Ji at Tianning, who taught him that studying the Dao takes awakening as primary, and gave him the gongan of the word "Who." One day, his eating bowl fell to the ground, and he had an awakening. He resided at Conggui Hermitage and Tiankai Rock. Someone asked: "What is the meaning of the Coming from the West?" He said: "Wherever there is water, it holds the moon; / No mountain is without clouds." He also instructed the assembly: "The ancients said that one eats all day without chewing a grain of rice, and walks all day without treading an inch of ground. Only when the mind is applied like this can there be a slight degree of correspondence." When the master resided at Qixia, he once presented Yuan Liaofan with profound discourses on establishing one's destiny.
