笑巖禪師　金臺世族也。父吳門。母丁氏。弱冠出家。禮大寂能和尚為師。後遍參知識修進開悟。後隱京師柳巷。罕接見人。雲棲大師詣京師叩謁請法。深相契會密傳心要云。有笑巖集四卷行世。

Chan Master Xiaoyan: A member of a prominent family of Jintai. His father was from Wumen, and his mother was from the Ding clan. In his early twenties, he left the household, bowing to the Venerable Daji Neng as his master. Later, he traveled widely to visit spiritual friends, cultivating, advancing, and gaining awakening. Later, he lived in seclusion in Liu Alley in the capital, rarely receiving visitors. Master Yunqi went to the capital to pay his respects and request the Dharma; they accorded deeply in spirit, and he secretly transmitted the mind essential to him. His *Xiaoyan ji* (Collected Works of Xiaoyan) in four fascicles circulates in the world.
