庚辰八年。文華殿西柱礎上。有天下太平四字。拭之不泯。張居正曰。此瑞也。請上臨觀。上見之曰。此偽也。不懌而罷。

The eighth year, gengchen. On the base of a western pillar in the Wenhua Hall, the four characters "All under Heaven is in Peace" appeared and could not be wiped away. Zhang Juzheng said, "This is an auspicious sign," and requested the Emperor to inspect it. The Emperor saw it and said, "This is a forgery." He was displeased and dismissed the matter.
