麓亭法師　釋祖住。字幻依。號麓亭。丹徒人。族姓楊。母朱氏。夢僧入至覺而誕。十三入龍蟠山。依朝陽和尚。受法華華嚴諸大部經。薙染進具。通曉諸經大義。游少室參大章和尚。至伏牛謁高安。詣都下禮松秀二師。盡得清涼宗旨。往京萬壽寺。演華嚴大鈔。至入法界品。地震天雨寶花。無極妙峯承印俱與會。萬曆丁亥九月二十二日。沐浴趺坐說偈曰。虛空無面目。無位強安排。話頭不話頭。處處是如來。又曰。今年六十六。不知做甚麼。咦諸人著眼。看這個消息。佛祖到來也。用他不著。言訖而逝。年六十六。臘五十四。塔於蓮華峯北。

Dharma Master Luting: Śramaṇa Zuzhu, courtesy name Huanyi, sobriquet Luting; a native of Dantu, of the Yang clan. His mother, the Zhu lady, dreamed of a monk entering, and upon waking she gave birth. At thirteen, he entered Mount Longpan and relied upon the Venerable Chaoyang, receiving the *Lotus*, *Avataṃsaka*, and other great sūtras. He shaved his head and took the complete precepts, thoroughly comprehending the great import of the various sūtras. He traveled to Shaoshi to study under the Venerable Dazhang, went to Funiu to visit Gao'an, and journeyed to the capital to pay homage to the two masters Song and Xiu, fully attaining the central teachings of Qingliang. He went to Wanshou Monastery in the capital and expounded the great commentary on the *Avataṃsaka*. When he reached the "Entry into the Dharma Realm" chapter, the earth shook and the heavens rained precious flowers. Wuji, Miaofeng, and Chengyin were all present in the assembly. On the twenty-second day of the ninth month of the dinghai year of the Wanli era, he bathed, sat in the lotus posture, and spoke a verse: / "Empty space has no face; / Where there is no station, it is forcibly arranged. / Huatou or not a huatou, / Everywhere is the Tathāgata." / He also said: / "Sixty-six years old this year, / I know not what I have been doing. / Ah, you people, fix your eyes, / And look at this message! / Even if the buddhas and patriarchs arrive, / There is no use for them." / Having spoken, he passed away at the age of sixty-six, with fifty-four monastic years. A stupa was erected for him north of Lianhua Peak.
