At that time, King Śuddhodana assembled the ministers and deliberated with them, saying, 'The Prince is now grown, fully endowed with both wisdom and valor. It is now fitting that his head be consecrated with the waters of the four great seas. Furthermore, issue an order to the other lesser kings: seven days from now, on the eighth day of the second month, the Prince will be consecrated, and they may all assemble.' When the eighth day of the second month arrived, the other kings, together with ṛṣis, brāhmaṇas, and others, all gathered like clouds. They hung silk banners and canopies, burned incense, scattered flowers, sounded bells, beat drums, and performed various musical arts. In vessels of the seven treasures, they held the waters of the four seas. The assembly of ṛṣis each bore them on their heads and handed them to the brāhmaṇas; in this manner, it extended even through all the ministers, who all bore them on their heads and handed them on to the King. The King then consecrated the Prince's crown with them and entrusted him with the seals of the seven treasures. They also beat great drums and proclaimed in a loud voice, 'We now invest Sarvārthasiddha as crown prince!' At that time, devas, nāgas, yakṣas, humans, non-humans, and others in empty space performed heavenly music and with different mouths praised in unison, 'Excellent! In the country of Kapilavastu, the crown prince is installed.' The other eight kings also installed their crown princes on that same day.
