爾時世尊。浣濯已竟還坐樹下。是時迦葉來至佛所。忽見樹間有四方石及大石槽。即自思惟。此中云何有此二物。心懷驚怪而往問佛。年少沙門汝此樹間。有四方石及以石槽。從何而來。於是世尊即答之言。我向經行見地弊帛。取欲浣之。心念須此石。釋提桓因知我此意。即往香山而取之來。迦葉聞已歎未曾有。而自念言年少沙門。雖有如是大威神力能感諸天。然故不如我道真也。

At that time, when the World-Honoured One had finished washing, he sat back down beneath the tree. At that time, Kāśyapa came to where the Buddha was. Suddenly seeing the square stone and the large stone basin among the trees, he wondered to himself, “How is it that these two things are here?” Filled with surprise, he went to ask the Buddha, “Young śramaṇa, from where did this square stone and this stone basin among your trees come?” Thereupon the World-Honoured One replied to him, “Just now when I was walking about, I saw ragged cloth on the ground and took it, wishing to wash it. I thought to myself that I needed this stone. Śakra Devānām Indra knew my thought and immediately went to Mount Gandhamādana to bring it here.” Hearing this, Kāśyapa marveled at what was unprecedented and thought to himself, “Although the young śramaṇa possesses such great supernatural power to move the gods, he is still not as true as my path.”
