“I have now transcended
The reach of all sentient beings;
The subtle and profound Dharma
I have now fully perfected.
The realms of the three poisons and five desires
Are eternally severed with no remaining traces;
Like a lotus flower in water,
Unstained by the muddy mire.
Self-awakened to the Eightfold Noble Path,
I have no master and no equal.
With pure wisdom
I have subjugated the mighty Māra.
Now I have attained right awakening,
Fit to be a teacher of gods and humans.
Body, speech, and mind fulfilled,
Therefore I am called a Muni.
I wish to go to Vārāṇasī
To turn the nectar wheel of the Dharma,
Which gods, humans, Māras, and Brahmās
Are all unable to turn.”
