祐律師云。余觀無常之變甚矣。固有形而莫免也。夫以。天尊衛疾而不能延齡。金掌在心而無救對至。是以聖人修長壽之果。而不養蕉沫之身也。

Vinaya Master Sengyou states: I observe that the transformations of impermanence are severe indeed! Those who have physical form cannot escape it. Even when the Honored of Heaven guarded him in sickness, he could not prolong his years; though the golden palm was upon his heart, it could not avert the arrival of retribution. Therefore, the sages cultivate the fruit of long life and do not sustain this body of plantain and foam.
