祐律師云。竊惟。大聖垂經抑揚懲誡。夫以正覺之尊萬累久絕。絕累塵劫而甫示餘報。明知釋種之滅。非力能免。斯實止殺之深誡。慎業之明規也。

Vinaya Master You says: I reflect that when the Great Sage bestowed the scriptures, he used praise and blame as admonition and warning. Now, as the Honoured One of Perfect Enlightenment, he had long severed the myriad entanglements; yet after severing entanglements for dust-mote kalpas, he has now only just manifested the residual retribution. Clearly we know that the destruction of the Śākya clan could not be averted by force. This is truly a profound warning against killing and a clear rule for exercising caution regarding karma.
