增一云。帝釋請佛在天為母說法。佛念四眾懈怠不將侍者獨在天宮。時優填王等咸思如來。即勅巧工。以栴檀作佛形高五尺。

The Ekottarikāgama says: Śakra invited the Buddha to preach the Dharma for his mother in the heavens. The Buddha, considering that the fourfold assembly was indolent, did not take an attendant, but stayed alone in the heavenly palace. At that time, King Udayana and others all longed for the Tathāgata, and so he commanded skilled craftsmen to make an image of the Buddha out of sandalwood, five feet tall.
