孔寧子時為黃門侍郎，在廨患痢，遣信請度。度呪竟云：「難差。見有四鬼，皆被傷截。」寧子泣曰：「昔孫恩作亂，家為軍人所破，二親及叔，皆被痛酷。」寧子果死。

Kong Ningzi was serving as a Gentleman of the Yellow Gate at the time. Falling ill with dysentery at his office, he sent a messenger to invite Beidu. When Beidu finished chanting incantations, he said, "It is difficult to cure. I see four ghosts, all of whom have suffered wounds and amputations." Ningzi wept and said, "In the past, when Sun En rebelled, our family was destroyed by soldiers; both my parents and my uncle suffered agonizing cruelty." Ningzi indeed died.
