僧歸既至，尋得慧緒，具說其意。緒既無此弟，亦不知何以而然。乃自往來壽春尋之，竟不相見。通後自往江陵，而慧緒已死。入其房中，訊問委悉，因留江陵少時。路由人家墳墓，無不悉其氏族死亡年月。傳以相問，並如其言。或時懸指偷劫，道其罪狀，於是群盜遙見通者，輒間行避走。又於江津路值一人，忽以杖打之，語云：「可駛歸去，看汝家若為？」此人至家，果為延火所及，舍物蕩盡。

He entered her room, inquiring into all the details, and then stayed in Jiangling for a short time. When his path took him past graves of families, he never failed to know all their clans and the years and months of their deaths. Passing the word to inquire of them, all proved to be as he said. At times he pointed out thieves and robbers in advance and recounted their criminal charges; thereupon groups of bandits, seeing Tong from afar, would take detour routes to flee from him. Also, on the road at the Jiang ferry, he met a man and suddenly struck him with a staff, saying: 'Return home quickly and see how your house is doing!' When this man reached home, it had indeed been caught by spreading fire, and his household goods were completely destroyed.
