時有范材者，巴西閬中人。初為沙門賣卜于河東市，徒跣弊衣冬夏一服，言事亦頗時有驗。後遂退道染俗，習張陵之教云。

At that time there was Fan Cai, a native of Langzhong in Baxi. Initially a śramaṇa, he sold fortunes in the markets of Hedong, walking barefoot in ragged clothes, wearing the same outfit in winter and summer; his predictions were often remarkably accurate. Later, he abandoned the Way, took up secular ways, and was said to practice the teachings of Zhang Ling.
