Shi Falin, surnamed Yue, was a native of Linqiong in Jinyuan. He went forth from the household in his youth and stayed at Pei Temple in Shu Commandery. He was exclusively fond of the precept rules and concentrated his mind on the Daśabhāṇavāra-vinaya, always lamenting that there was no good master or authority in Shu. Soon afterward, Master Sengyin arrived in Shu, and Lin overcame himself and grasped an awl [to stay awake], joining day to night in study. When Yin returned to Shaanxi, Lin again followed him for several years. He penetrated to the bottom the subtle nuances of the various Vinaya collections. Later he returned to Shu and stayed at Lingjian Temple. None of the monks and nuns of the Yi region failed to venerate him.
