11.54

釋法期，姓向，蜀都郫人。早喪二親，事兄如父。十四出家，從智猛諮受禪業，與靈期寺法林同共習觀。猛所諳知，皆已證得。後遇玄暢，復從進業。

Shi Faqi, whose secular surname was Xiang, was a native of Pi in the commandery of Shu. Having lost both parents early, he served his elder brother as a father. At fourteen he underwent pravrajyā and studied dhyāna practices under Zhimeng, cultivating contemplation alongside Falin of Lingqi Temple. All that Zhimeng understood and knew, Faqi fully realized. Later he met Xuanchang, and further pursued his studies under him.
