釋慧紹，不知氏族。小兒時，母哺魚肉輒吐，咽菜不疑。於是便蔬食。至八歲出家，為僧要弟子。精勤懍勵，苦行標節。

Shi Huishao's clan origin is unknown. When he was an infant, whenever his mother fed him fish or meat he would vomit, but he swallowed vegetables without hesitation; thereupon he ate vegetarian food. At the age of eight he left household life as a disciple of Sengyao. He was diligent and self-disciplined, setting a standard with his ascetic conduct.
