In the sixth year of the Daming reign, the realm suffered a severe drought; prayers to the mountains and rivers went unanswered for successive months. Shizu asked him to pray for rain, requiring that it must bring a response: "If no result is obtained, there will be no need for us to meet again." Bhadra said, "Relying upon the Three Jewels and Your Majesty's heavenly majesty, I trust that rain will certainly fall. If none is obtained, I shall never see you again." He went immediately to the fishing terrace at the North Lake, burned incense, and prayed, taking no food or drink, silently reciting sūtras and secretly adding esoteric dhāraṇīs. The next day at the申 hour (late afternoon), clouds rose from the northwest like canopies; when the sun reached the mulberry and elm trees, the wind roared, the clouds converged, and rain fell for consecutive days. The following morning, the ministers entered to offer congratulations; an edict summoned him for words of comfort and praise, and donations of offerings followed one after another.
