後鎮南將軍何無忌作鎮潯陽，爰集虎溪，請永及慧遠。遠既久持名望，亦雅足才力，從者百餘，皆端整有風序。及高言華論，舉動可觀。永恬然獨往，率爾後至，納衣草屣，執杖提鉢，而神氣自若，清散無矜，眾咸重其貞素，翻更多之。遠少所推先，而挹永高行，身執卑恭，以希冥福。

Later, General Who Pacifies the South He Wuji garrisoned Xunyang, and gathered people at Tiger Brook to invite Huiyong and Huiyuan. Huiyuan, having long possessed fame and prestige, and being quite endowed with talent and ability, had over a hundred followers, all neat and orderly. When engaging in lofty speech and elegant discourse, his demeanor was impressive. Huiyong went alone calmly, arriving later without pretense; wearing a patched robe and grass sandals, holding a staff and carrying a bowl, his demeanor was self-possessed, pure and free without boastfulness. The crowd all esteemed his integrity and simplicity, admiring him even more. Huiyuan rarely deferred to others, yet he revered Huiyong's lofty conduct, personally maintaining humble respect in the hope of invisible blessing.
