Huiyuan, having long possessed fame and prestige, and being quite endowed with talent and ability, had over a hundred followers, all neat and orderly. When engaging in lofty speech and elegant discourse, his demeanor was impressive. Huiyong went alone calmly, arriving later without pretense; wearing a patched robe and grass sandals, holding a staff and carrying a bowl, his demeanor was self-possessed, pure and free without boastfulness. The crowd all esteemed his integrity and simplicity, admiring him even more. Huiyuan rarely deferred to others, yet he revered Huiyong's lofty conduct, personally maintaining humble respect in the hope of invisible blessing.
