京師道場僧鑒，挹其德解，請還楊州，邕以遠年高，遂不果行。然遠神足高抗者，其類不少，恐後不相推謝，因以小緣託擯邕出。邕奉命出山，容無怨忤，乃於山之西南營立茅宇，與弟子曇果，澄思禪門。

Monk Jian of Daochang Monastery in the capital admired his virtue and understanding and invited him to return to Yangzhou, but because Huiyuan was advanced in years, Tanyong ultimately did not go. However, Huiyuan's senior and aloof disciples were numerous; fearing that later on they would not yield to one another, Huiyuan used a minor pretext to expel Tanyong. Tanyong received the order and departed the mountain without any resentment or opposition. Thereupon, he built a thatched hut to the southwest of the mountain and, together with his disciple Tanguo, purified his thoughts in the gates of dhyāna.
