Shi Daoliang, whose origins are unknown, resided at North Duobao Temple in the capital. His spiritual comprehension was extraordinary, and his bearing and deportment were admirable; but his temperament was unyielding and clashed with others, so he stood out from the crowd. At the end of the Yuanjia era, he was exiled to Nanyue. Some contemporaries mocked him for failing to preserve himself, but Daoliang said: "This is where the principle of karma leads; it is certainly not a matter of human affairs." Thereupon, he called his companions to travel by night and journeyed south to Guangzhou. Twelve disciples, including Zhilin, followed him. He remained in the south for six years, lecturing and guiding the multitude, and transforming the lands beyond the mountain ridges. During the Daming era, he returned to reside in Jingzhao, where he extensively opened Dharma assemblies. He authored the Commentary on the Meaning of the Tattvasiddhi-śāstra in eight fascicles. He died during the Taishi era of the Song at the age of sixty-nine.
