At the beginning of the Xiaojian era, Daowen was summoned by imperial decree to the capital and took up residence at Zhongxing Temple. During the Daming era, he was appointed by decree as monastic leader of the capital. On the eighth day of the tenth month in the fourth year of Daming, Empress Dowager Lu Zhaohuang completed the making of an image of Samantabhadra and held a vegetarian feast in the meditation quarters of Zhongxing Temple. Exactly two hundred monks had been invited, their names listed, and they assembled together with the number fixed. At that time, as the temple had only recently been constructed, the security guards were extremely strict. Suddenly, a monk arrived late and took a seat; his bearing was exceptionally refined, drawing the eyes of the entire hall. After speaking more than a hundred words with the host of the feast, he suddenly vanished. When they interrogated the guards at the gates, all said they had not seen anyone enter or leave. The assembly then realized he was a divine person.
