Daowen, being the saṃghapradhāna at that time, then submitted a report to Moling [County], stating: "The Empress Dowager's sagacious reflection is profound and luminous; her sacred omens harmonise with the unseen. She cleanses her thoughts in the pure arena and applies her mind to the ultimate realm. Indeed, her renown and adornment grace the imperial palace, while her aspirations transcend the Brahma realms. She then initiated the conception of casting and carving, fashioning and capturing the divine splendor, and modelling an image of Samantabhadra, that this grand image might descend in all its majesty. She exhausted the treasures of the cosmos, perfecting the marvel of divine adornment. The vegetarian feast and lecture she established concluded on the eighth day of this month. The offerings were strictly apportioned, and the roster of names had been settled in advance. The monks were led in turn to their seats, without any excess or deficit in number. As the sūtra-chanting was half completed and the sun reached the Kunwu direction, a remarkable monk was suddenly observed seated among the assembly. His deportment was dignified and majestic, his demeanor outstanding and spirited. The entire assembly was astonished, yet none recognised him. The patron of the feast asked: 'What is the venerable one's name?' He replied: 'My name is Huiming.' 'At what temple do you reside?' He answered: 'I come from Tian'an.' As these words were spoken, he vanished in an instant. The entire assembly was awestruck and humbled; across the banquet all harboured reverent thoughts. They considered this a manifestation of auspicious splendor and a revelation of unseen response. Mount Purple can be seen; the Lotus Terrace is not far away. We have indeed heard that when utmost sincerity evokes response, the sun's shadow turns back and the planetary coordinates shift; when a clarified mind devotes itself, stones burst open and springs burst forth. How much more so when the sovereign's virtue nurtures the cosmic cycle, and imperial achievements flourish in harmony! Her benevolence penetrates the celestial distances, and her truth resonates beyond the unseen. Thus, supreme kings and thriving scholars mark the reign of Daming; and to inspire wondrous bodies [of the Buddhas], he manifested in person in the house of the soaring dragon. It is just as if, through Your Majesty's candle of wisdom illuminating the maritime corners and radiant glory matching the sun and moon, he took 'Huiming' (Wisdom-Radiance) as his personal name. Continuing the mandate of Heaven to flourish imperial fortunes and bestow them without bounds, he took 'Tian'an' (Heavenly Peace) as the name of his temple. The divine foundation extends ever further, and the Way and governance are consolidating. The nine domains are entirely at peace, and myriad realms share the joy. I respectfully submit this report to the subordinate county to display this heavenly blessing." The county then reported it to the commandery.
