8.10

時莊嚴復有玄趣、僧達，並以學解見稱。趣博通眾經，並精內外，而尤善席上，風軌可欣。達少而頭白，時人號曰「白頭達」，亦博解眾典，尤精往復。而性剛忤物，被擯長沙。

At that time at Zhuangyan Temple there were also Xuanqu and Sengda, both renowned for their learning and understanding. Qu was broadly versed in various scriptures and was refined in both the inner and external [texts]; he was especially skilled on the lecturer's seat, possessing an admirable deportment. Da had white hair in his youth, so contemporaries called him "White-headed Da"; he was also broadly knowledgeable in various canons and especially refined in dialectical exchange. Yet he was unyielding by nature and offended others, so he was banished to Changsha.
