A short time later, Hu deposed Hong and established himself, moving the capital to Ye and declaring the era Jian[wu]. Hu devoted his heart to serving Deng with even greater reverence than Le had shown. He issued an edict saying: "The Master is a great treasure of the realm. Honorable nobility cannot be conferred upon him, nor does he accept high stipends. Since glory and emoluments do not reach him, how can we honor his virtue? From this time forward, it is fitting that he be clothed in silk damask and brocade, and ride in an intricately carved carriage. On days of court assemblies, when the Master ascends the hall, all from the regular attendants down shall assist in raising his palanquin. The Crown Prince and all the dukes shall flank and support him as he ascends. When the master of ceremonies announces that the Great Master has arrived, all who are seated in the assembly shall rise, in order to make manifest his nobility." He also ordered the pseudo-Minister of Works, Li Nong: "Inquire after him personally morning and evening; the Crown Prince and all the dukes shall pay homage to him once every five days to express our reverence."
