At that time, Teng Yongwen of Nanyang, the grand administrator of Hengyang, was in Luoyang, lodging at the Manshui Temple. He had been sick for years without recovering, with both legs contracted and bent so that he could not rise and walk. Jīvaka went to see him and asked, 'Do you wish to be cured of your sickness or not?' Thereupon he took a cup of pure water and a willow branch, brushed the water with the willow branch, and raised his hand toward Yongwen to chant an incantation. He did this three times. Then, taking Yongwen's knees in his hands, he made him stand up, and Yongwen immediately stood up and walked as before.
