Prior to this, Mahāyāna scriptures had not yet spread widely, and the study of dhyāna and numerical categories was very flourishing; once he arrived in Chang'an, all praised him as a master of the Dharma. Fu Jian's Palace Secretariat Reader Zhao Zheng revered the Great Dharma. Having previously heard that in foreign countries the *Abhidharma-vibhāṣā* was upheld and studied, and that Saṃghabhadra recited it by heart, Zhao Zheng made offerings to him with the four requisites and requested the translation of the Sanskrit text. Thereupon, together with master of the Dharma Shi Dao'an and other monks of eminent virtue, he gathered the saṃgha to proclaim the translation. Saṃghabhadra recited the root text from memory, the foreign śramaṇa Dharmanandin took it down in Sanskrit, Fotuluocha (Buddharakṣa) proclaimed the translation, and the Qin śramaṇa Minzhi recorded it in Chinese. It was translated in the nineteenth year of the Jianyuan era of the illegitimate Qin, beginning in early summer and concluding only in mid-autumn. Earlier, Saṃghabhadra had also carried with him the Sanskrit text of the *Vasumitra*; the following year, Zhao Zheng again requested its translation. Saṃghabhadra, Dharmanandin, and Saṃghadeva then jointly held the Sanskrit text, the Qin śramaṇa Zhu Fonian proclaimed the translation, Huisong took it down, and the venerable Dao'an and Fahe checked and settled it together. Thus the two texts were circulated, and their transmission and study have continued down to the present day. Saṃghabhadra's moral conduct was strict and austere, and he was detached, quiet, and remote from the worldly; the monastic community of Guanzhong modeled themselves upon him. Later it is not known where he ended his life.
