Lang's disciple Lingshao had ancestors from Yanmen and was surnamed Lü. In his youth he roamed about hunting, but later set his heart on undergoing pravrajyā, serving Lang as his teacher. His reflections and study were fruitful, and he was especially skilled in dhyāna and numerical analysis; whenever he entered meditative absorption, he would sometimes not rise for several days. Later he moved to Mount Liuquan, where he hollowed out a cave to sit in quiet meditation. After Lang passed away, he carved an image of wood and paid homage to it morning and evening. Sun Chuo's Zhengxiang lun (Treatise on the True Image) says: "Lü Shao concentrated his spirit in Zhongshan"—it was this very man.
