Zhu Facheng: it is not known where he was from. From childhood his spiritual discernment was extraordinary, and his clear insight surpassed ordinary men. Relying on Zhu Fahu, he became a śrāmaṇera; he was pure, genuine, and had lofty aspirations, and Fahu commended him greatly. Since Fahu's spiritual influence covered the Guanzhong region and he was wealthy in property and resources, at that time a prominent family in Chang'an, wishing to venerate the Great Dharma and test Fahu's moral power, falsely came to report an urgent need and begged for two hundred thousand coins. Before Fahu could reply, Facheng, aged thirteen and attending at his master's side, immediately said, "The upādhyāya's mind has already granted it to you." After the guest withdrew, Facheng said, "Observing this person's expression, he does not truly seek money; he was merely trying to observe what the upādhyāya's virtue is like." Fahu said, "I too thought so." The next day, this guest led more than a hundred members of his clan to visit Fahu to request full ordination and apologize for his intention in seeking money. Thereupon the fame of the master and disciple spread near and far.
