Sengqi was granted the rank of palace attendant, along with two heralds and two goat-carts, and Sengqian and the others were also given generous stipends. They conducted affairs with pure frugality, fully satisfying the expectations of the time; the five assemblies were disciplined and pure, never flagging through the six divisions of the day. In the seventh year of the Hongshi reign, by imperial decree he was additionally granted thirty personal bodyguards and thirty attendants in white robes. The rise of the saṃghapradhāna began with Sengqi. Sengqi went on foot in person and gave the carriages to the aged and infirm; the offerings and relief supplies he received were always applied to communal use. Although his years were in the autumn of life, he never grew weary of expounding the sūtras and vinaya or encouraging the community. At the end of the Hongshi reign, he died at the Great Monastery in Chang'an at the age of seventy.
