In the middle of the Taishi era of the Song, he was summoned to the capital to lecture on the Mahābherīhāraka-sūtra. Soon after, he returned to Kuaiji to resume the propagation of the Dharma. Considering the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra to be the teaching that exhausts ultimate principle, he constantly lingered in contemplation over it, lecturing on it repeatedly. Whenever someone convened a fasting-assembly, they never failed to invite him; if he had already accepted another, they would shift the day for him. In later years, enfeebled by age and afflicted with foot ailments, he was unable to travel outside, so they would deliver food to his room hoping for unseen benefit. Chaojin was by nature intensely devoted to the scriptures, studying them with consummate earnestness; even when he lost his sight in old age, he still had his disciples recite the Nirvāṇa-sūtra aloud, once every ten days. Such was his devotion. He died during the Yuanhui era of the Song, at the age of ninety-four.
