At that time there was Dharma Master Tanji, originally of the Zhao clan, also a native of Chang'an. Experiencing the banditry and disorder in Guanzhong, he fled east to avoid turmoil, roaming through scenic mountains and waters until he reached Kuaiji. He was adept in the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra and the Abhidharma. The world revered him at that time as second only to Chaojin. The commandery governor, Wang Kun of Langye, invited him to reside at Jiaxiang Temple west of the town. The temple was originally founded by Kun's grandfather, Wang Hui.
