Earlier, when Zhishun's illness worsened, he did not eat for many days. Once, right at midday, he suddenly asked for a fasting drink. His disciple Tanhe, because Zhishun had abstained from grain for a long time, secretly mixed half a ge of rice into the broth and offered it to Zhishun. Zhishun swallowed it but then vomited it up, asked for water to rinse his mouth, and said to He: "You must leave Yunmen forever and not dwell here again." His adherence to pure and austere discipline was entirely of this sort. On the day of his death, an extraordinary fragrance was strongly scented within his room, and some saw a heavenly canopy. His dying instruction was that his corpse be exposed in an open field to be given to insects and birds. His disciples could not bear to carry this out, so they buried him beside the temple. His disciples and others erected a stele eulogizing his virtue; Yuan Ang of Chen Commandery composed the text, and Shi Huiju of Fahua Temple also composed an epitaph for him. Zhishun's works, including the "Praise of Dharma Rites" and records on "Receiving Precepts" and "Propagating the Dharma," all circulate in the world.
