Śramaṇa Guangfu, secular surname Zheng, was a native of Nanyan. In his youth, he relied on the venerable elder of the capital's renown, Sihao, and received the Dharma instructions from him. After ascending to the precepts, he traveled through Song, Shaoshi, and the two capitals, meeting Chan Master Shenhui and profoundly clarifying the profound purport. When he reached Mount Yangqi in Yichun, he hung up his staff—there, the peaks gathered emerald green, the caves were secluded, and the sprouts of mushrooms and fungi mingled with the grasses and flowers. Fu closed his eyes all day long, spending his days eating tree nuts. From time to time, there were those wearing high caps and feathered cloaks, riding cranes and accompanied by luan birds; at first they came and went fleetingly, but later they climbed up to his hermitage and approached his knees. Wherever these immortal guests went, light clouds and thin mist would inevitably follow their steps. Attendant heavenly soldiers and mighty warriors were told to retreat far away, while they conversed and discussed with him for long periods of time. Later, when his conversion of beings through the Way was complete, he entered extinction on the fourth day of the third month in the first year of the Zhenyuan era, at the age of ninety-one.
