27.41

系曰：海雲是普賢應身，非耶？通曰：「菩薩下化，弗拘定相，應以比丘，即現說法。」若然，何亂文殊境，使主伴不分乎？通曰：「若如所問，凡夫分矣！聖人豈以我所求乎？」

The critical appraisal says: Was Haiyun a manifestation of Samantabhadra, or was he not? The reply: "When a bodhisattva descends to transform beings, he is not bound to a fixed form; 'to those who should be saved by a monk, he immediately manifests and preaches the Dharma.'" If that is so, why disturb Mañjuśrī's domain, making host and guest undistinguished? The reply: "If viewed according to your question, it is ordinary people who make distinctions! How could a sage be constrained by what I seek?"
