2.21

Today, observing Śubhakarasiṃha's preserved form, it has gradually shrunk smaller; the dark skin is faint, and the bones are exposed. During droughts and floods throughout successive reigns, people have gone to pray, and confirmations of response have arisen accordingly, along with many generous donations. Brocade and embroidered kerchiefs cover him as if he were merely resting. Every time he is brought out of the shrine, he is placed upon a low couch and bathed with scented water. The wealthy and powerful of Luoyang vie to donate meditation cloths, pure towels, and bath powder to support the bathing rites. When the present Emperor conducts apotropaic prayers, he frequently dispatches envoys to go and add offerings and donations, which are invariably fulfilled according to his wishes.
