Śramaṇa Jiliang was a native of central India; his Sanskrit name was Pramiti, rendered here as Jiliang (Utmost Measure). Harboring the Dao, he observed different regions and aided beings according to circumstances. Travelling and proselytising by turns, he gradually reached Zhina (Indian custom calls Guangzhou "Zhina", and designates the imperial capital as "Mahā-zhina"). He then halted his staff at the Zhizhi Bodhimaṇḍa in Guangzhou. The assembly knew he was broadly erudite, and requests poured in. Pramiti, with benefiting and gladdening [beings] as his purpose, accordingly unfolded the esoteric mysteries.
