Śramaṇa Feixi's place of origin is unknown. His spiritual air was lofty and distant, and his knowledge and capacity surpassed others. At first he studied vinaya etiquette; later, concerning the Tiantai teaching of the "Threefold Contemplation in One Mind", he and the śramaṇa Chujin settled their minds on diligent study. Early in the Tianbao era he journeyed to the capital, mostly staying at Caotang Temple on Zige Peak in the Zhongnan Mountains. When Amoghavajra was in charge of translation, he carefully selected outstanding talents; Feixi was among them, frequently assuming the responsibilities of taking down text with the brush and polishing phrasing. On the fifteenth day of the fourth month of the first year of Yongtai of Emperor Daizong, he received an imperial decree to participate with sixteen exegetical śramaṇas, including Liangben, at the Inner Palace Chapel of Daming Palace in translating the Renwang huguo banruo jing (Humane Kings Sūtra) and the Mixian jing (Ghanavyūha Sūtra). Previously, when on palm leaves, both had been in verse, but what was now translated was mostly rendered in prose. Amoghavajra, together with Feixi and others, as well as Liu Kang, an Academician of the Hanlin Academy, examined and verified them once again; Feixi served as a formal certifier of meaning, and in literary skill he did not disgrace this office.
