Shi Xingke was styled Yixing. He broadly synthesised the Tiantai tradition and meticulously cultivated concentration and contemplation. His practice was steadfast and his awakening to the principle was all-pervading. One evening, hearing the rain, he composed a verse: / 'Before the eaves, dripping drop by drop, distinct and clear; / In their delusion, sentient beings call it sound. / For years, I too have mostly chased after things; / On a spring night, with a single pillow, dreams are hard to form.' / His final end is unknown.
