贊曰。始遠公。次善導。既而南嶽五會。永明臺岩。終於法師。號蓮社七祖。勸化之盛。蓋耀古彌今矣。雖然覈其自脩。則罔不精勤刻勵。如所以示人者。今沙門知勸人。而不知勸己。欲竊附於前輩。不幾狂乎。

In praise: Beginning with Master Huiyuan, next was Shandao, followed by the Five Assemblies of Mount Nanyue, Yongming and Master Zhiyi's cliff, and finally this Dharma Master, known as the Seven Patriarchs of the Lotus Society. The flourishing of their exhortations and conversions truly illuminated antiquity and fills the present day! Nevertheless, examining his own practice, there was none who was not diligent, painstaking, and earnest, just as he had demonstrated to others. Nowadays, śramaṇas know how to exhort others but do not know how to exhort themselves; in seeking to associate themselves stealthily with the forebears, are they not nearly mad?
